Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim confirms that Pedro Porro will join Tottenham Hotspur in a deadline day deal.

Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that Pedro Porro is joining Tottenham Hotspur on deadline day.

Spurs earmarked Porro as their top full-back target earlier in the January window, but talks have dragged on throughout the month over disagreements over a fee.

Sporting were holding out for the 22-year-old's full £39.5m transfer fee to be paid, while Spurs were trying to negotiate over the structuring of that sum.

However, despite the move threatening to break down last weekend, a breakthrough was reached on Monday and the defender has been undergoing his medical in North London on deadline day.

Official confirmation is yet to arrive from either club, but Sporting's manager Amorim announced the deal during his press conference ahead of Wednesday's Primeira Liga match against Braga.

"In football, we get used to change from a very young age. One day they are our children, our best friends, and now he is Conte's son. If we play against him, I already know his difficulties," he told reporters.

"We remain friends, I move on, now my favourites are others. My players are always the best in the world. Porro will be a player for another team and I wish them the best of luck."

Porro will initially join Tottenham on a loan deal for the remainder of the season, with the agreement understood to contain an obligation to buy for his release clause in the summer.

The former Manchester City youngster has agreed terms on a five-and-a-half-year deal with Tottenham, and will become their second signing of the window after Arnaut Danjuma.

Antonio Conte's side will make space in their Champions League squad for both players by sending Matt Doherty on loan to Atletico Madrid, while Bryan Gil has rejoined Sevilla.
