Stoke City set to wrap up loan deal for defender Philipp Wollscheid

Stoke City are set to complete the loan deal for German international defender Philipp Wollscheid.

Stoke City are set to sign German international defender Philipp Wollscheid from Bayer Leverkusen, manager Mark Hughes has confirmed.

The 25-year-old will join the Potters on loan for the rest of the season, and will provide cover for a defence which has suffered with injuries to Robert Huth, Marc Wilson and Marc Muniesa in recent weeks.

Hughes told reporters: "He has superb quality and is a very good footballer. He has moved for decent money in the past and he has played for the reigning world champions, so he has real good pedigree."

Wollscheid moved to Leverkusen in 2012 and has made 51 league appearances.
