Jermain Defoe scores 150th Premier League goal as Sunderland thrash Hull City

Sunderland move off the foot of the Premier League table after an emphatic 3-0 victory over struggling Hull City in Saturday's clash at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland have moved off the foot of the Premier League table after recording an emphatic 3-0 victory over Hull City in Saturday's clash at the Stadium of Light.

Jermain Defoe, in the process of helping the Black Cats clock up consecutive top-flight wins for the first time since May, became just the eighth player to register 150 Premier League goals.

The 34-year-old opened the scoring in Wearside in the 34th minute when he latched on to Duncan Watmore's flick-on, beat two Tigers defenders and slotted the ball home past goalkeeper David Marshall.

The game was held up for 10 minutes in the second half by a floodlight failure, but once the repairs were made, Sunderland went on to finish the job by adding two more goals.

Both came courtesy of Victor Anichebe, who stepped inside Josh Tymon and beat Marshall at his near post with a left foot on the hour mark before wrapping the game up with six minutes left to play.

Sunderland centre-back Papy Djilobodji was sent off for a second booking in injury time, meaning that he will be suspended for their game at Liverpool next week.

The result means that the Black Cats climb to 19th in the Premier League table, three points from safety, while Hull sit one place and two points above.
