Hull City manager Mike Phelan says that he has nothing to prove to Sunderland boss David Moyes, who chose not to have him on his backroom staff at Manchester United.

Hull City manager Mike Phelan has said that he holds 'no grudges' with David Moyes over his exit from Manchester United.

When Moyes replaced Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, he opted to remove Phelan - as well as other members of Ferguson's staff - from the backroom after deciding to bring in Steve Round as his assistant.

The pair meet in the dugout on Saturday as Hull travel to Sunderland but Phelan says that he has nothing to prove to his opposite number at the Stadium of Light.

The 54-year-old is quoted by Chronicle Live as saying: "I have no point to prove. I had a fantastic career at Manchester United. It's not for me to hold any grudges. I had 18 years there overall, which is more than most people get. I had my time but my time now is here.

"I had experience in abundance at Manchester United and it's up to me to bring that here to Hull."

Both clubs sit in the Premier League relegation zone but Hull are five points ahead of Sunderland.
