Sunderland release Steven Fletcher, Wes Brown

Sunderland confirm that Steven Fletcher, Wes Brown, Danny Graham and Steve Harper will all leave the club at the end of their contracts this summer.

Sunderland have confirmed that Steven Fletcher and Wes Brown are among the players that will leave the club at the end of their contracts this summer.

Fletcher joined the Black Cats for £12m in 2012, but scored just 23 goals in 108 appearances for the club and spent the second half of last season on loan at Marseille.

Brown, meanwhile, arrived at the Stadium of Light from Manchester United in 2011 but was limited to only 87 appearances for the club, including just six throughout the 2015-16 campaign.

Also excluded from Sunderland's retained list were striker Danny Graham, who is reportedly wanted by the likes of Celtic and Blackburn, and veteran goalkeeper Steve Harper.

Sunderland have moved to secure the futures of Patrick van Aanholt and Jermain Defoe in recent days, though, with the pair both signing contract extensions at the club.
