Jan Verthonghen snubs deadline day move to Sunderland

Jan Verthonghen turns down the chance to join Sunderland.

According to talkSPORT, the Eredivisie club were keen to cash in on the Belgian centre-back, who is one of Europe's most wanted talents.

Arsenal, Manchester United, Tottenham and Newcastle have all been linked with the 24-year-old, who has 35 caps for his country.

Vertonghen's contract expires in 2013, when it is expected he will leave the Amsterdam ArenA.
