Garry Monk unsure over top-six finish

Swansea City boss Garry Monk admits that he is not expecting his side to achieve a top-six finish in the Premier League this season.

Swansea City manager Garry Monk has admitted that he is not expecting his side to finish in the top six of the Premier League this season.

The Swans recorded their highest ever top-flight finish last term when they came eighth, and they have been tipped to improve on that showing this year.

However, Monk has conceded that it will be hard to finish higher than the league's elite sides who regularly finish in the upper echelons of the table.

"I do think those big clubs have a monopoly on those five or six places at the top," he told talkSPORT.

"But that won't mean we're not going to push and try like all the other clubs to try and do better than what we did last season and try and make sure we have a good, successful season.

"And more importantly, what I want to do as a manager is not just manage a team for the sake of it, but to manage ones that will be remembered like we did last year, and one that will be remembered this year as well."

Swansea are currently eighth in the standings after taking eight points from their first five games.
