Francesco Guidolin: 'Swansea City must keep identity'

Swansea City boss Francesco Guidolin says that the club will continue to consider the 40-point mark their main target in the Premier League.

Swansea City boss Francesco Guidolin has suggested that the club must target stability over year-by-year progression in the Premier League.

The Welsh outfit secured eighth position in the top flight last season but they have spent the majority of this campaign fighting for survival with their Premier League status only secured in recent weeks.

Guidolin - who signed a new deal at the Liberty Stadium this week - says that the club should try to learn from their approach earlier in the season when they failed to build on a promising start.

The Italian is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "Next season 40 points is the priority and, if it's possible, to play well. It's important not to lose this, or to lose our identity.

"This season could be a lesson for the future because for Swansea in the last 10 years, every year has been up, up, up.

"In football it's not always easy to go up. It's important to have a season that's a little bit complicated to understand and learn new things."

Swansea end their season with a home fixture against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
