Swansea City caretaker manager Garry Monk admits that the 3-0 South Wales derby victory over Cardiff City will go down as one of his proudest moments in football.

Swansea City manager Garry Monk has admitted that the 3-0 South Wales derby victory over Cardiff City ranks as his proudest moment in football.

The 34-year-old defender, appointed caretaker boss at the Liberty Stadium for the "foreseeable future" following the sacking of Michael Laudrup, took charge of the Swans for the first time on Saturday.

Goals from Wayne Routledge, Nathan Dyer and Wilfried Bony secured them a comfortable win over their rivals, and Monk hopes that the result can inspire Swansea to go on a long run of good form.

"This is my proudest part," he told reporters. "The players were magnificent.

"Confidence is the biggest thing. Half the battle is the mentality, if you can get the mentality right the football takes care of itself.

"We need to take the belief from this game and into the games coming."

Monk has played 260 times during his decade-long Swans playing career, scoring seven goals in the process, but has stressed that he will not consider himself for selection during his reign as manager.
