Garry Monk: 'I'm not recalling Michu to Swansea City'

Swansea City manager Garry Monk rules out bringing back Napoli loanee Michu to the Liberty Stadium, despite Wilfried Bony's likely absence in the New Year.

Swansea City manager Garry Monk has ruled out a move to bring back Michu to the Liberty Stadium, despite being faced with the prospect of losing Wilfried Bony for up to a month in the New Year.

Ivory Coast qualified for the Africa Cup of Nations following a 0-0 draw with Cameroon on Wednesday, which means that Bony could be selected for the three-week long competition.

However, Monk claimed that he would not look to recall Michu from his year-long loan spell at Serie A giants Napoli, preferring instead to go into the loan market himself to find a new striker.

The 35-year-old is quoted by Wales Online as saying: "Michu is on loan at Napoli for the season. I'm not even thinking about that, I've not even checked the details of the loan.

"Obviously Ivory Coast's qualification dictates what you do in terms of January. We may have to go into the loan market to cover it. We've already been looking at all the positions.

"Now Bony has qualified a striker is the position we do have to cover. We could promote from within, but it is likely to be a loan. It might be a loan with a view to a permanent move or to next season or just for a month, we don't know. We will look at all the options."

Swansea are currently fifth in the Premier League.
