The Vancouver Whitecaps earned their fifth win of the season as they edged out the Portland Timbers in a seven-goal thriller in their MLS clash.
The home side took the lead in the third minute when Maximiliano Urruti collected Diego Valeri's pass and from the edge of the box curled an effort into the bottom corner past David Ousted.
Vancouver were handed the chance to draw level minutes later when Jack Jewsbury brought down Erik Hurtado in the penalty area. Pedro Morales took the spot kick and fired the ball past Donovan Ricketts to net the equaliser.
The Whitecaps were awarded another penalty when Sebastian Fernandez was tripped by Jorge Villafana and Morales fired in his second spot kick to hand his side the lead.
The visitors went further ahead just before the break when Morales raided down the right and hit a low cross into the area for Hurtado. The striker's first effort was brilliantly saved by Ricketts, but he was alert to pounce on the rebound and tap it home.
Things got even better for Vancouver after the break when Jordan Harvey collected a cross on the edge of the box on the left and drilled a low effort into the bottom corner for his side's fourth goal of the game.
However, Portland responded in the 77th minute when Valeri hit a cross deep to the back post and found Gaston Fernandez in space, who nodded the ball past Ousted.
Fanendo Adi had the chance to get his side well and truly back in the game in the 83rd minute, but he could only fire his close-range effort at the keeper.
Three minutes later Will Johnson drew his side to within one goal when he beat Ousted with a low effort, but the comeback was to end there as the Whitecaps held out for the win.
