Wales assistant coach Raymond Verheijen has expressed his shock at the death of Gary Speed.
The 42-year-old was found hanged at his Chester home on Sunday morning.
Verheijen, who was appointed as Speed's assistant for the national side in February 2011, has said that he couldn't believe the former midfielder would take his own life.
"I have worked with Gary for a year, but I never even saw the slightest signal something like this could happen," Verheijen said to De Telegraaf.
"Several Wales internationals got in touch with me to share the news. Shortly after, the FA officially informed me about what had happened. I'm lost for words. Gary had a very strong personality and was always full of life and fighting spirit. Something like this is then on the complete opposite of the spectrum.
"The team was really on the rise under Gary. We recorded some very good results, but nobody's thinking about that right now. Our thoughts go out to his family."
