David Meyler and Robbie Brady score either side of the break to give Hull City a 2-1 win at Watford in the Championship.

Goals from David Meyler and Robbie Brady move Hull City up to fourth after a 2-1 win at Watford.

The pair scored either side of half time before Troy Deeney added a late response for the hosts at Vicarage Road.

It was the visitors who produced the first chance of the afternoon, as a clever one-two between Stephen Quinn and Jay Simpson resulted in the former firing his effort just past the post.

The Tigers were forced into making their first substitution on the half-hour mark, when Paul McShane was replaced by Jack Hobbs.

The first half didn't possess many clear chances, but Hull tried their luck twice towards the break, as Manuel Almunia held Robert Koren's placed effort.

Then Ahmed Elmohamady's cross found Meyler, but he failed to get his strike on target for the away side.

However, Hull's pressure was rewarded when Cory Evans's effort came back off the bar, before Meyler headed in his first goal for the club.

It was Watford who started the second half the brighter, as Mark Yeates forced David Stockdale into producing a number of saves, including a superb stop from a free kick.

However, it was Hull who doubled their advantage against the run of play as Robbie Brady's free kick beat Almunia and went in off the crossbar.

Watford did give themselves late hope, after Troy Deeney placed his shot underneath the onrushing Stockdale to grab a response for the Hornets.

It was too little too late for Watford, who remain sixth in the table, whereas Hull move up to fourth.
