Watford striker Odion Ighalo plays down transfer talk

Watford striker Odion Ighalo denies claims that he will seek a move away from the Hornets in the upcoming winter transfer window.

Odion Ighalo has played down suggestions that he could seek a move from Watford in the January transfer window.

The 26-year-old has netted 14 Premier League goals for Watford this season and has struck 26 league goals this calendar year – more than any other player in English football.

It has been claimed that a number of clubs are interested in signing the striker, but according to a report, Watford have 'no intention' of allowing their top scorer to leave at the mid-point of the season.

Ighalo has now had his say on the matter, pledging his short-term future to the Hornets, but his comments do seem to open up the possibility of a transfer at the end of the season.

"I want to finish the season strongly with Watford and prove that we have a good bunch of players here," he told BBC Sport. "When the focus is on a strong finish, transfer talk will not get to you.

"I haven't really bothered myself about statistics because I've always had my feet on the ground and I never forget where I come from. I am just focused on getting better, doing things right on the pitch and being myself on the pitch."

Watford will continue their Premier League campaign at home to Manchester City on Saturday.
