Craig Dawson: 'Deciding to sign new West Bromwich Albion contract was easy'

West Bromwich Albion centre-back Craig Dawson says that it was an easy decision to sign a contract extension with the Premier League outfit.

West Bromwich Albion centre-back Craig Dawson has described his decision to sign a new contract with the club as an easy one.

The defender recently put pen to paper on a deal that sees him remain at The Hawthorns until 2017, despite the player originally handing in a transfer request as he was the subject of multiple bids from Burnley during the summer.

"It [the contract] was an easy decision to make for me, especially as I was playing games," said Dawson, according to BT Sport.

"It's hard when you don't play. You work hard in the week, don't get the chance to play, and it affects your fitness and confidence. Everything grows when you play - your confidence, your fitness.

"You never get a promise of football but I was told if I work hard, do the right things, then I would get an opportunity to play. It was obviously a tough time in the summer. Speaking to the gaffer it was important for me to play games. That was the main thing really."

Dawson has started all six of the Baggies' Premier League fixtures this season under the guidance of coach Alan Irvine.
