Roy Hodgson wants West Bromwich Albion board backing

Roy Hodgson hints that he wants the West Bromwich Albion board to match his ambition if he is to stay at The Hawthorns.

Roy Hodgson has hinted that he wants the West Bromwich Albion board to match his ambition if he is to stay at The Hawthorns.

The 64-year-old has been tentatively linked with the vacant post of England manger after guiding the Baggies to the top half of the Premier League table.

The West Brom hierarchy have reportedly stalled planned changes of backroom personnel amid uncertainty over their manager's future.

While Hodgson says that he is happy in the Black County, he is seeking assurance from his superiors that his squad can be maintained and improved.

He told the Daily Star: "I'm enjoying my time here and I've said to the chairman that it would be nice if we could make certain we are on safe ground and know where we are heading so we can talk about the future.

"I'm realistic about the ambitions a club like West Brom can have, but I would want us to be looking upwards.

"I don't think it's a case of the fans here worrying, but I can't give them any guarantees because I haven't signed a new contract."

Hodgson has had 19 different managerial jobs during a 40-year coaching career.
