West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis: 'Win more important than display'

West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis believes that it was more important for his side to beat Sunderland rather than worry about the quality of their performance.

West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Pulis has admitted that he was delighted that his side got back on track in the Premier League courtesy of a 1-0 win over Sunderland.

Saido Berahino scored the only goal of the game as he gathered a loose ball in the box and slotted the ball into the net to guide the Baggies to the three points, ending a run of back-to-back defeats in the top flight.

Pulis told BBC Sport: "The win was more important than anything else today - the win and the clean sheet.

"The first half wasn't brilliant but in the second half we were much better. We have had some tough games at home. We lost against Everton when we were 2-0 up, which was a kick in the stomach, so we needed that today.

"It was probably a bonus for us that Sam [Allardyce] has not had a lot of time with his players because of the international break. He will give it his best shot, as he always does."

West Brom moved up to 12th in the Premier League as a result of their win.
