West Ham United's Diego Poyet eyeing first-team opportunity

West Ham United midfielder Diego Poyet is determined to earn a regular spot in the first team under Slaven Bilic at the Hammers this season.

West Ham United midfielder Diego Poyet has outlined his ambition to become a first-team player at the club next season.

The 20-year-old joined the Hammers last season but spent the majority of the campaign on loan in the Championship with Huddersfield Town, and played few times under Sam Allardyce following his return.

Poyet is determined to make an impact under new boss Slaven Bilic, but has conceded that he would be willing to make a loan move if the Croat told him it was in his best interests.

He told reporters: "My preference is to want to be at West Ham. That is where I want to be and that is where I want to play.

"If the manager tells me 'Look, you are better off going out on loan and getting some games', then I will respect him for that and I will do that.

"But until I am told to leave, I am not going anywhere. If you are a young player and not playing, then as soon as there is a new manager, the thing you want to do is impress get in his good books and then he trusts you."

Poyet played in West Ham's 3-0 victory over Lusitanos in their first Europa League qualifying-round match.
