West Ham United announce that they have signed former Manchester United defender Patrice Evra on a free transfer.

West Ham United have announced that they have signed Patrice Evra on a free transfer.

Late last year, Evra was sacked by Marseille after kicking a supporter ahead of a Europa League game, with UEFA ruling that the left-back was suspended from European fixtures for the remainder of the season.

However, the 36-year-old remained eligible for domestic matches and that has led to Hammers boss David Moyes making a move for the former Manchester United man.

Moyes has previously worked with Evra during their time at Old Trafford, and the Scot has opted to give the player a contract until the end of the campaign.

West Ham currently have a number of players sidelined through injury, while the left-sided Arthur Masuaku is unavailable until the middle of March through suspension.
