Adam D'Apuzzo escapes red card as Western Sydney Wanderers hold Adelaide United

Western Sydney Wanderers defender Adam D'Apuzzo is lucky to complete the full 90 minutes of his side's 0-0 draw with Adelaide United, after striking Fabio Ferreira.

Western Sydney Wanderers kept their ninth A-League clean sheet of the season as they drew 0-0 with Adelaide United on Saturday.

The start of the game was delayed by 30 minutes to enable the pitch to be cleared of excess standing water following a heavy storm in New South Wales.

With underfoot conditions still far from ideal, it was slightly surprising that the match went ahead.

It was an even bigger surprise that Wanderers defender Adam D'Apuzzo managed to complete the full 90 minutes.

The 27-year-old was already on a yellow card when he struck Fabio Ferreira in the head midway through the first half.

Despite a lengthy consultation with his assistant, the referee decided that D'Apuzzo's offence was not deserving of a second booking. Ferreira suffered a concussion and was later substituted.

The result, which was a fair reflection of the action, was the first draw between these two teams on their sixth ever meeting.
