Dave Whelan reveals that is considering handing control of Wigan Athletic to his 21-year-old grandson.

Dave Whelan has admitted that the current season could be his last in control of Premier League club Wigan Athletic.

The 74-year-old, who bought the club in 1995, has revealed that he is considering handing over the reins to his 21-year-old grandson David.

"The time comes for everyone when you need to retire or take a step back because you're simply not what you used to be," said Whelan, according to The Express.

"What I would like to do is create a dynasty here at Wigan Athletic. My grandson is a bright boy, and is massively keen on football and Wigan Athletic. I'm inclined to let him have a go and I hope that happens."

Whelan took control of Athletic when they were in the fourth tier of English football.
