Paul Dickov pleased to compete against Wigan Athletic

Doncaster Rovers manager Paul Dickov says that last night's performance against Wigan Athletic was "really pleasing" despite losing a two-goal lead.

Doncaster Rovers manager Paul Dickov has praised his players for their performance in last night's 2-2 draw with Wigan Athletic.

Goals from Theo Robinson and Chris Brown gave the visitors a 2-0 lead at the DW Stadium, but they came under siege after Shaun Maloney reduced the deficit in the 56th minute.

As Dickov's men inched towards victory, Leon Barnett drilled home Marc-Antoine Fortune's cross to salvage a point for the Latics, but the 40-year-old took solace in Donny's performance.

"To come here against a team that I consider one of the best if not the best squad in the division and compete the way we did and get a point is really pleasing," Dickov told Sky Sports News.

"At 2-0, we've hit the bar which was a massive turning point in the game because at 3-0 it's possibly a lot harder for them to come back, even with the quality they've got.

"Obviously they get back to 2-2 and you're thinking about hanging on and Billy [Paynter] has a fantastic header that comes back off the bar as well, so I suppose it was an exciting game for people to watch."

Doncaster face Charlton Athletic at The Valley on Saturday.
