Nicklas Bendtner came off the bench to score a late equaliser as Wolfsburg claimed a 1-1 draw against FC Koln this afternoon.
The early signs were worrying for Dieter Hecking, whose side often looked vulnerable in defence as the hosts made a bright start as they looked to build on last weekend's comfortable 3-1 win over Stuttgart.
Kevin De Bruyne, who may have been playing in his final game for Wolfsburg if reports of a proposed move to Manchester City are accurate, appeared to be the most capable of creating opportunities early on but last season's Bundesliga runners-up found it tough to break down a stubborn home defence.
The lead belonged to the hosts on the half-hour mark when Anthony Modeste's flick on released Simon Zoller, who kept his composure to lift the ball over Koen Casteels before heading into an empty net.

Wolfsburg enjoyed a spell on top just before the break, but an equaliser never looked probable as Koln protected their advantage confidently heading into the interval.
A second goal almost arrived for Zoller early in the second half when found the space to turn in the box before testing Casteels with a low effort.
Sensing more goals were there for the taking, the hosts continued to commit men forward, but they wasted a good chance to take a commanding lead when Modeste's strike was pushed past the post by Casteels.
Tim Horn came to the rescue at the other end to protect the lead with a stunning save after Bas Dost's effort took a deflection.
The home side appeared to have done enough to collect all three points, but their hopes were dashed with six minutes of normal time remaining when Bendtner tapped in the equaliser after Horn could only parry Dost's low strike.
Despite failing to keep out the leveller, Horn ensured his side did not slip to an undeserved defeat in stoppage with a fine save to deny De Bruyne, whose second shot was blocked after he sprinted clear of the defence.
Wolfsburg created one more opportunity to find a winner when Dost connected with a powerful header in the box, but Horn responded superbly to push the ball against the crossbar.
