Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha learns his punishment for his involvement in a clash with Ipswich Town security staff after a Premier League game earlier this month.

Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha has been banned for two matches by the Football Association.

Earlier this month, the Brazil international was involved in a fracas with a member of Ipswich's Town security staff after a dramatic 2-1 victory for the Tractor Boys.

Cunha was shown to have snatched the glasses from the face of the aforementioned person, behaviour that was widely condemned.

Although the FA quickly handed out a misconduct charge, Wolves appealed, and it has controversially enabled the versatile attacker to participate in the last three Premier League fixtures in which Wolves have collected seven points.

However, on Tuesday morning, the governing body confirmed the punishment that has been handed to the 25-year-old.

What has the FA said?

An FA statement read: "Matheus Cunha has been suspended for two games and fined £80,000 following the Premier League fixture between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Ipswich Town on Saturday 14 December 2024.

"The forward was charged with misconduct and it was alleged that he acted in an improper manner after the final whistle.

"He admitted the charge and the sanctions were subsequently imposed by an Independent Regulatory Commission. Full written reasons for this case will be published in due course."

Cunha will now be absent for the Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest on January 6 and the FA Cup third-round tie at Bristol City on January 11.

A blessing in disguise?

As well as Cunha arguably being fortunate not to receive a longer suspension, his ban comes at a time when he may not have been fit for the next fixture.

Cunha was withdrawn at half time of Sunday's Premier League encounter at Tottenham Hotspur with an apparent hamstring problem.

Prior to that substitution, Cunha had played 90 minutes in every top-flight game from October 26 onwards.

He now has a break from action until Wolves take on Newcastle United at St James' Park on January 15.
