Former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Graham Taylor says that he expected Mick McCarthy to be sacked as manager.

Former Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Graham Taylor believes that the sacking of Mick McCarthy was expected following a run of poor results in the Premier League.

The West Midlands club announced the dismissal of McCarthy today after yesterday's 5-1 defeat to West Bromwich Albion.

"I'm not surprised [McCarthy was sacked] but I wish it hadn't happened," Tayor told Sky Sports News. "I think the thinking behind it is obviously the position in the table and if we change the manager we may just have a sudden surge, we may get the players really back on board, but you have to think long term as well.

"I think Mick McCarthy has done a fantastic job at Wolves over the four to five seasons that he's been there but the performance and then the result against West Brom was poor.

"The players are responsible for the performance but managers are respnsible for the results. I think the players should to look at themselves and take responsibility for their performance."

Alan Curbishley has become the early favourite with the bookmakers to become the next Wolves boss.
