Greg Dyke: 'England won't bid for 2026 World Cup if Sepp Blatter is in charge'

FA chairman Greg Dyke says that as long as Sepp Blatter is in charge of FIFA, England will not make another bid to host the World Cup.

Football Association chairman Greg Dyke has revealed that England will not make a bid to host the 2026 World Cup as long as Sepp Blatter is FIFA president.

England lost out to Russia and Qatar in the 2010 vote to decide the hosts for 2018 and 2022.

Dyke said today that David Gill's election as FIFA vice-president could sway the FA's decision to make another run at hosting the tournament.

"If David can assure us there's a proper system and it's fair then we could be persuaded," he said, according to BBC Sport.

"But at the moment the policy is straightforward - we don't bid while Mr Blatter's there."

Blatter is currently seeking a fifth term at the head of FIFA and will find out on May 29 if he has been re-elected.

England have only hosted the World Cup once in 1966, when they won the competition.
