McLaren's Fernando Alonso 'provisionally fit' to race in Chinese Grand Prix

McLaren's Fernando Alonso is 'provisionally cleared' to race in the Chinese Grand Prix after missing Bahrain due to injuries.

McLaren driver Fernando Alonso has been declared 'provisionally fit' to race in the Chinese Grand Prix this weekend.

The Spaniard was forced to miss the race in Bahrain two weeks ago due to lung and rib injuries that he suffered in a crash in Australia.

There have been doubts over whether the two-time Formula 1 champion would be allowed to compete in Shanghai, but the FIA medical team has given a positive report.

Before Alonso can be given the green light fully, though, he will have to undergo further checks after Friday's first practice session.

The driver's replacement Stoffel Vandoorne won McLaren their first points of the season by finishing 10th in Bahrain.
