Lewis Hamilton has launched a scathing attack on former team McLaren for dragging their feet over Jenson Button's future.
Fernando Alonso has been heavily linked with a move to the constructor for 2015, which has led to doubt over whether Button will stay in Formula 1 next season.
However, Hamilton believes that McLaren should be looking to retain the 2009 world champion's services.
"They don't need a better driver they need a better car," Hamilton is quoted by The Mirror as saying. "Jenson is a great driver. He's had an amazing career, and he's still one of the strongest drivers here, so it doesn't correlate for me.
"If I had a team, I would want him in it. He's a great asset. He's smart and he's fast and he's also a decent guy.
"He's still got plenty of capability as a driver to keep racing and winning."
Button has been heavily linked with a move to Porsche for next season's World Endurance Championship.
