Lewis Hamilton: 'Errors could cost me'

Lewis Hamilton says that operational errors have cost him a stronger title position this season.

McLaren driver Lewis Hamilton has admitted that he could be in an even stronger position for the title if it wasn't for early season operational errors.

In his first four races Hamilton endured three pit-stop problems and was moved to the back of the grid from pole position at the Barcelona Grand Prix after his team didn't put enough fuel in the car.

The Brit is current second in the championship standings and just 37 points behind Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, and the 27-year-old admits that the gap could be smaller.

"We lost a lot of points at the beginning. We were on the front row in the first seven or eight races where we should have won all of them," Hamilton said.

"Barcelona, we really could have won that, we had the best car that weekend. But you know we learn from those experiences and that's what life is about.

"We're in a very, very strong position, we're getting stronger and we will get stronger through the rest of this year."

Hamilton won the most recent Grand Prix of the season in Monza.
