Mercedes have refused to comment on speculation linking Lewis Hamilton with a move from McLaren.
Hamilton's contract with the British team expires at the end of this season and he has yet to sign a new deal despite months of negotiations.
Red Bull had previously been touted as a potential destination for the unsettled driver, but Formula 1 analyst Eddie Jordan has now claimed that the 27-year-old is poised to join Mercedes.
A spokesperson said: "Until we are in a position to confirm our full driver lineup for next season, it is inevitable there will be speculation around this topic.
"We would ask for your understanding, however, that we do not comment on speculation."
Nico Rosberg and Michael Schumacher are the current Mercedes drivers, but the seven-time world champion has hinted this could be his last season in the sport.
