Nico Rosberg has got his Singapore Grand Prix weekend off to the perfect start by topping the standings in first practice.
The German driver edged out Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton, whom he trails by 53 points in the world championship standings, with a lap of 1:47.995 at the street circuit in Singapore.
Hamilton was 0.319s slower and only 17 hundredths quicker than Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo, who split the two Mercedes and the Ferraris of Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen.
Ricciardo's teammate Daniil Kvyat did not enjoy the same success as the Australian and lies 18th in the standings after his car suffered fuel system issues.
The session was brought to an end by a red flag with three minutes remaining when Marussia's Alexander Rossi, making his F1 debut this weekend, crashed into the wall at turn 18.
