Nico Rosberg has recorded the fastest time in qualifying to claim pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix, edging out his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton.
The German secured his first pole position since the final race of last season in Abu Dhabi with a time of 1:24.681, marginally quicker than Hamilton's 1:24.948.
Hamilton, who was denied his fifth successive pole position, came in ahead of third-placed Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari, whose fastest lap was 1:25.458.
Valtteri Bottas, Carlos Sainz, Max Verstappen, Kimi Raikkonen, Felipe Massa, Daniel Ricciardo made up the remainder of the top 10.
It was a dismal afternoon for McLaren, with both Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button failing to make it through to the third qualifying phase, leaving them in 13th and 14th for the main event respectively.
The Spanish Grand Prix has seen eight different winners in as many years, and Rosberg could make it nine in nine if he comes first in tomorrow's race.
