Darren Clarke confirms he wants to be Ryder Cup captain

Northern Irishman Darren Clarke confirms that he wants to be 2016 Ryder Cup captain.

Darren Clarke has admitted that he wants to be Team Europe's 2016 Ryder Cup captain.

The announcement of Paul McGinley's successor is expected next week, and Clarke is said to be the favourite along with Spanish golfer Miguel Angel Jimenez.

The Northern Irishman told BBC Sport: "If it's Miguel, I would be delighted for him, but I would love to do the job. To be the captain is huge, but he is only there to steer the players. It's not about the captain, it's about the team."

Clarke has won the cup four times as a player.
