Paul McGinley has ruled out being a vice-captain to Darren Clarke at the 2016 Ryder Cup at Hazeltine.
McGinley, who led Europe to victory at Gleneagles in September, was part of the five-man panel which confirmed Clarke's appointment as skipper this afternoon.
While insisting that he will be available to counsel the Northern Irishman, McGinley has stressed that his official involvement in the tournament is now behind him.
"I won't be vice-captain, not for Darren or anybody," the 48-year-old told a Wednesday press conference.
"At this stage I don't really have the personality like Sam Torrance or Jose Maria Olazabal to come back as a vice-captain. I'm pretty sure I won't be one at all but of course I'll be supporting them."
Five-time Ryder Cup player Clarke was given the nod over Miguel Angel Jimenez and Thomas Bjorn to become captain.
