Rory McIlroy warns Europe of Rickie Fowler's threat for USA

Rory McIlroy believes that Rickie Fowler could be dangerous for the USA in this week's Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.

World number one golfer Rory McIlroy believes that Rickie Fowler could pose a threat to Europe's bid to retain the Ryder Cup when they take on Team USA at Gleneagles this week.

Europe have a strong recent record in the tournament having won five of the last six contests, the latest coming at Medinah in 2012.

"Rickie Fowler - he could be a real talisman for the American team," McIlroy told Goals on Sunday. "Bubba Watson, Keegan Bradley, Phil [Mickleson] as well.

"Everyone's been talking about Europe being favourites but the Americans have still got a very strong team. We can't be complacent at all."

McIlroy heads into the clash in Scotland after winning back-to-back majors at the British Open and US PGA Championship.
