The first round of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Hawaii is wiped out due to adverse weather conditions.

The start of the 2013 PGA Tour has been postponed until Saturday as strong winds forced the suspension of the first round of the Hyundai Tournament of Champions.

The opening tournament of the year was supposed to start in Hawaii on Friday but adverse conditions of play, including strong winds of up to 42mph, interrupted proceedings and eventually led the organisers to postpone it.

"We started in almost unplayable conditions and it just got worse," PGA Tour rules official Slugger White told reporters.

"We tried to play and Mother Nature just wouldn't help us."

US Open champion Webb Simpson was the early leader as he moved to three-under-par after just seven holes.

Jonas Blixt was at one-under-after five holes, a stroke in front of Swedish compatriot Carl Pettersson (after one hole) and Kyle Stanley (four), Ryan Moore (three), Johnson Wagner (two) and Scott Piercy (one).

All scores were erased and the round will start over on Saturday with 36 holes.
