Tiger Woods to return to action at Congressional this week

Fourteen-time Major champion Tiger Woods confirms that he will return to the action for the first time since March at this week's PGA Tour event at Congressional.

Tiger Woods will make his first PGA Tour appearance in three months at this week's event at Congressional.

The 14-time Major champion has been sidelined since March after undergoing back surgery to correct a nerve problem, and missed The Masters and US Open.

Last week a statement from his camp revealed that he was taking full swings again, and Woods has now confirmed that he will be 'taking the next step' by returning to competitive action at the Quicken Loans National in Maryland, a tournament which raises money for his charity foundation and begins on Thursday.

"After a lot of therapy I have recovered well and will be supporting my foundation next week at the Quicken Loans National," he said in a post on his official Facebook page.

"I've just started to hit full shots but it's time to take the next step. I will be a bit rusty but I want to play myself back into competitive shape. Excited for the challenge ahead."

Former world number one Woods, 38, won the last of his Majors at the 2008 US Open.
