Luke Donald has regained the world number one spot following a four-shot victory in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
The defending champion led by two heading into the final day and was able to card a round of 68 to comfortably finish ahead of Justin Rose and Paul Lawrie.
Rose joined Donald at the top of the leaderboard on hole four after a birght start but failed to match his English compatriot's consistency for the remainder of the round.
Five birdies in the middle of the round extended Donald's lead and the 34-year-old's impressive play around the greens in the final holes ensured that he picked up the winner's cheque at Wentworth for the second successive year.
Donald's victory means he leapfrogs McIlroy in the rankings following the Northern Irishman's failure to make the cut on Friday evening after a disastrous two rounds.
