New Zealand never recovered after Australia dominated the first quarter 16-7. The Kiwis outscored their opponents in each of the final three quarters but Australia held on to claim victory.

With the score at 43-37 going into the final quarter, New Zealand scored four out of the last five goals but time ran out on their comeback and Australia were crowned world champions for the third successive time.

Caitlin Bassett scored 94% of her goal attempts for Australia which proved to be the difference between the teams. New Zealand top scorer Maria Tutaia hit just 72% of her shots.

New Zealand came out on top earlier in the week when the teams met in the group stage.
