A museum dedicated to Barcelona star Lionel Messi will be built in the striker's hometown of Rosario in Argentina.

A museum dedicated to Barcelona star Lionel Messi is due to be built in Rosario, Santa Fe in central Argentina.

The 25-year-old, who grew up in the South American town, will be the centre of the museum that will pay tribute to the forward's achievements.

"Messi's family have committed to providing unique objects for the museum," the Daily Mail quotes the town's Mayor Monica Fein as saying.

"It will be a sports museum where Messi will be the central figure."

The Argentina international, who has won the Ballon d'Or for the fourth consecutive year, has netted 42 goals this season so far.
