Former Chelsea player Phil McKnight dies, aged 93

Former Chelsea and Leyton Orient player Phil McKnight passes away at the age of 93 following a short illness.

Former Chelsea and Leyton Orient player Phil McKnight has died at the age of 93.

The Blues confirmed via their official website that the Scot passed away following a short battle with illness.

McKnight was a popular figure at Stamford Bridge, spending time there between 1947 and 1954 after joining the club from Alloa Athletic in Scotland.

The wing-half left Chelsea to join Orient and played more than 200 times for the Os, as well as going on to become a coach and manager there.

McKnight was at Stamford Bridge to watch Chelsea take on Newcastle United in January this year, receiving full VIP treatment as part of the Hungerford Care Home's Wishing Well scheme.
