Preston's Scott Laird gets £1 from nan after scoring against Manchester United

Preston North End's Scott Laird reveals that he was given one pound from his grandmother for scoring against Manchester United in the FA Cup.

Preston North End's Scott Laird has revealed that he received one pound from his grandmother after scoring against Manchester United in the FA Cup.

The 26-year-old got on the scoresheet at Deepdale, but ended up on the losing side as United secured a 3-1 victory in the fifth round of the cup competition.

As part of family tradition, from a young age Laird has received one pound from his grandmother any time he has scored a goal.

"She was the first person I rang and I said 'I want that pound,'" the Daily Star quotes Laird as saying. "I tried saying I wanted a bit more because it was against Manchester United, but she says that wasn't in the contract."

Laird has been a Preston player since 2012.
