Nick Kyrgios: 'I've mended ties with Stanislas Wawrinka'

Nick Kyrgios claims that he has mended bridges with Stanislas Wawrinka after his controversial comments earlier in the year.

Nick Kyrgios has claimed that he has fixed his relationship with fellow tennis star Stanislas Wawrinka to the point that "it's almost like nothing happened".

The outspoken Australian number two seed sparked outrage during a Rogers Cup match earlier this year when he told the Swiss that his 19-year-old compatriot Thanasi Kokkinakis had slept with his girlfriend.

An outraged Wawrinka said after the match: "So disappointing to see a fellow athlete and colleague be so disrespectful in a way I could never even imagine. What was said I wouldn't say to my worst enemy. To stop so low is not only unacceptable but also beyond belief."

Kyrgios, who was later fined for his remarks, is now competing as a teammate of Wawrinka for the Singapore Slammers in the annual International Premier Tennis League tournament and said that the experience has helped mend bridges.

"It's been really good actually," Kyrgios told Fox Sports. "We've all been chatting. I feel we're much more comfortable with each other now. It's almost like nothing happened. We're out there competing, we're playing for the same team, we want to win.

"That's been the main thing – is me just getting up and giving him all the energy I give everyone else, and he's appreciated that and he's been playing some really good tennis as well."

The Singapore Slammers, which also features Andy Murray, defeated Rafael Nadal's Indian Aces in the final on Sunday.
