Tom Maynard had high levels of alcohol, cocaine and ecstasy in his system prior to his death, an inquest has heard.

An inquest into the death of Surrey batsman Tom Maynard has revealed that the cricketer had high levels of alcohol and drugs in his system when he was fatally hit by a tube train.

The 23-year-old was found electrocuted after stepping on a live rail before colliding with a train on the District Line following an earlier incident when he was stopped by police on suspicion of drink-driving near Wimbledon Park Underground station last June.

An inquest has heard that Maynard, who was approximately three times over the legal blood alcohol level, had been drinking alcohol as well as taking cocaine and ecstasy prior to his death, according to BBC Sport journalist Joe Wilson.

It has also been revealed that a hair sample indicates that Maynard had been taking cocaine in the three months before his death.
