US presidential nominee Donald Trump has reacted angrily at the PGA Tour's decision to move the 2017 World Golf Championship from his Miami course to a site in Mexico.
The PGA said that it had opted to move the event to an as-yet undecided venue in Mexico after failing to find companies willing to adequately sponsor the tournament at Trump's Doral course.
Trump - the presumptive Republican nominee for this November's election - has spoken out repeatedly against Mexico during his nomination campaign, outlining plans to build a giant wall along the border between the US and Mexico in an attempt to keep out illegal immigrants.
Speaking about the PGA's decision at an event late on Wednesday, Trump said: "The PGA Tour has put profit ahead of thousands of American jobs, millions of dollars in revenue for local communities and charities and the enjoyment of hundreds of thousands of fans who make the tournament an annual tradition.
"This decision only further embodies the very reason I am running for president of the United States."
Meanwhile, Trump's son Eric Trump claimed that current sponsor Cadillac is willing to continue its backing of the event.
"Cadillac is ready, willing and able to continue as title sponsor for the tournament," he told Reuters. "And I also can say that Cadillac is an amazing company and a longtime partner to the Trump Organization and we have an impeccable relationship."
This year's WGC-Cadillac Championship was won by Adam Scott in March.
