A man has reportedly been arrested on suspicion of sending racist messages to Professional Footballers' Association chairman Clarke Carlisle on Twitter.
The 25-year-old is thought to have been accused of intentionally causing harassment or distress by sending racially aggravated tweets to Carlisle, as well as Northampton Town teammate Adebayo Akinfenwa.
"We became aware of some tweets that had been sent to our players on Wednesday evening and we immediately notified the police," a Northampton spokesman told the Daily Mail. "As this is a live investigation it would be inappropriate for us to comment further."
The man in question is thought to still be in custody in Cheltenham.
