Southampton striker Billy Sharp is preparing to do the Great South Run in Portsmouth this Sunday as a tribute to his son Luey, who passed away at just two days old.
The 26-year-old, who is on loan at Nottingham Forest for the remainder of the season, will take part in the run the day after competing against Barnsley in the Championship, which will mark the first anniversary of his son's death.
"I've never run 10 miles before and I'm sure I'll be a bit scared about how I'll feel after playing at Barnsley the day before. But I'll crawl across the line on my hands and knees if necessary," Sharp told The Mirror.
"It will be an emotional weekend, and I know it's going to be tough to wake up on Luey's first birthday. All sorts of things will be swimming around in my mind, but hopefully I can score another goal to dedicate to his memory like I did last year."
Sharp scored for Doncaster Rovers the weekend after Luey's passing and revealed a T-shirt emblazoned with the words 'this is for you son'.
