Angel di Maria to pay fine after settling Spanish tax fraud case

Angel di Maria is reportedly handed a one-year suspended prison sentence and €2m (£1.76m) fine after admitting to two counts of tax fraud.

Paris Saint-Germain star Angel di Maria has been fined €2m (£1.76m) after admitting to two counts of tax fraud in Spain.

The former Manchester United attacker was also handed a one-year prison sentence, but he is unlikely to serve jail time as sentences under two years in Spain are suspended.

According to PA, Di Maria will repay £1.14m - the figure that relates to image rights that he earned in 2012 and 2013 while playing for Real Madrid.

The footballer, who left the Spanish giants in 2014 before joining Manchester United for one season, has also been ordered to pay a 60% fine.

Meanwhile, Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly due to testify in court on July 31 regarding his own tax fraud case.
