Cristiano Ronaldo's split from Irina Shayk 'could hamper his brand'

Marketing experts believe that Cristiano Ronaldo's brand could have taken a hit after ending his relationship with Russian model Irina Shayk.

Marketing experts believe that Cristiano Ronaldo's brand could suffer slight damage following his split from Russian model Irina Shayk.

The Real Madrid star confirmed earlier this week that the pair had mutually ended their five-year relationship prior to the Ballon d'Or ceremony last week.

During their romance, Ronaldo appeared in fashion magazines alongside Shayk, who was the cover model of the 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue.

"The CR7 brand has its own value, but is influenced by the personal life of the athlete whether he likes it or not," Eurosport quotes Daniel Sa of marketing school IPAM as saying.

"Having a girlfriend in the world of fashion makes him have a greater financial impact than if she were a complete stranger."

Ronaldo is already rumoured to be dating Real Madrid TV reporter Lucia Villalon.
