Southampton's Mauricio Pochettino to keep interpreter despite grasping English

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino says that he will keep an interpreter by his side, despite grasping the English language.

Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that he will keep using an interpreter, despite having a good grasp of the English language.

The former Argentina international always uses a Spanish translator when speaking to the press, but he does communicate with his players, many of whom are English, in the language unfamiliar to him.

While Pochettino has insisted that he continues to have English lessons, the 41-year-old feels more comfortable with an interpreter by his side in order to prevent any misunderstandings.

"The fact is I have an interpreter because he gives me the security that, when I have to answer complex questions, and with my complex answers, it's much better I have an interpreter to make sure nothing is misconstrued," the Daily Mail quotes Pochettino as saying.

"I am having English lessons and I should be having more English lessons. I don't see it as an excuse, but I do spend from 7am to 8pm at the training ground working all day long, so that doesn't give me much time left to have extra English lessons."

Pochettino arrived at St Mary's in January.
